Friday Nudibranch Blogging
This is Nembrotha cristata, a nudibranch who does not play the public swan, nor try to curve its proud neck on your vocal streams, but is, in its own little isle retreated, the cygnet of its own secluded wave. Or words to that effect.
That's the cutest nudibranch I've ever seen. Like a fantasy combination of animals all rolled up into one, then painted dark blue with polka dots. Did this guy make its screen debut in Yellow Submarine?
That's mighty fine praise, coming from a man with a legendary ass (or so I am told). You make me blush.
I have been waaaaaiiting aaalll day for this week's nudi to appear, but I might have to check on it tomorrow because I promised myself that I would leave early so I could visit the local pub to watch the disaster news on the TV .. there are days when I ought to own my own TV, and this past week is one of them. I haven't seen anything about Katrina yet (although I've heard plenty on NPR!), but I did look over a man's shoulder at the front page of the NY Times today and was almost sobbing on the subway as a result!
He looks ready for jousting...
ReplyDeleteHow stunning.
ReplyDeleteOkay Phila. I've gone and made this nudibranch my screensaver.
ReplyDeleteIt's just too damned beautiful to ignore.

Awesome. wonderful. Thanks for posting.
ReplyDeleteWow, it's been a while. This is an incredibly beautiful creature!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
It's a nudibranch pony! Holden will be sooooo envious.

Forgive my ignorance, but what is a nudibranch? Besides (as is apparent from the pictures on this site) damn sexy.

It's a very tiny sea-slug.
I am always too late for you to respond to my comments (wah). Anyway, I guess I'll talk to thin air by saying that is one fine nudi!

Hedwig,
ReplyDeleteNot so! I scan the comments religiously for the slightest peep from you.
